Statutory Holidays Policy and Procedures

Scope:

This policy affects all employees who are employed by The Vets Sales and Support Department.

Policy Elements: 

Our company Statutory (Stat) Holiday Policy and Procedures outlines our company’s provisions for employees when an American or Canadian Stat Holiday occurs. The following policy specifies when American/Canadian Stat Holidays are, who will or will not be working, and pay entitlements.

List of Canadian Statutory Holidays:

New Year’s Day  -Monday, January 02 *

Family Day -Monday, February 20

Good Friday -Friday, April 07

Victoria Day - Monday, May 22

Canada Day -Monday, July 03

Civic Day -Monday, August 07

Labor Day -Monday, September 04

Thanksgiving-Monday, October 09

Christmas Day -Monday, December 25

Boxing Day -Tuesday, December 26

List of American Statutory Holidays:

New Year's Day - Monday, January 02*

Martin Luther King Day -Monday, January 16

Memorial Day - Monday, May 29

Juneteenth - Monday, June 19th

Independence Day - Tuesday, July 04

Labor Day - Monday, September 04

Thanksgiving Day - ​​Thursday, November 23

Christmas Day - Monday, December 25

Rules and Regulations of Holidays:

Americans

Each American employee will be required to work their regularly scheduled shift on any and all Canadian Stat holidays unless the holidays fall on the same date.

Exceptions:

  • Prior PTO request submitted and approved

Each American employee is entitled to their statutory holidays so long as they follow State Employment Laws. If an employee has requested or agreed to work their Stat Holiday, they will be entitled to Premium pay at 1½ times an employee's regular rate of pay.

Canadians

Each Canadian employee will be required to work their regularly scheduled shift on any and all American Stat Holidays unless the holidays fall on the same date.

Exceptions:

  • Prior PTO request submitted and approved

Each Canadian employee is entitled to their statutory holidays so long as they follow Provincial Employment Guidelines. If an employee has requested or agreed to work their Stat Holiday, they will be entitled to Premium pay at 1½ times an employee's regular rate of pay.

When I Work Requests

When you are requesting Stat Holidays through WiW, please ensure you are inputting the request as a Holiday. Holiday requests should only be used for USA or CAN stat holidays.
