Welcome Dr. Zach Mills

We are excited to announce the addition of Dr. Zach Mills, our new Vice President of Medical Performance.    

Dr. Mills is an animal health leader with expertise in veterinary professional services, strategic alliances, business development, strategy, and innovation, with experience in international, corporate, academic, and military contexts. Dr. Mills has worked in the professional veterinary services of four leading animal health companies and served as Head Veterinarian and Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for companion animal business for two.  

Prior to joining The Vets, Dr. Mills most recently served as the Head of Veterinary Professional Services for the US Pet Business at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health (BIAH) overseeing the US Professional Services Veterinary (PSV) field team, the US Veterinary Technical Marketing headquarters team, and Veterinary Strategic Partnerships.  Prior to BIAH, Dr. Mills held the executive veterinary position for the companion animal business at Merial, and Dr. Mills worked in animal health in commercial operations for companion animal, equine, and livestock, business operations for livestock, Strategic Alliances & Business Development, and Research & Development External Innovation at both Zoetis and Pfizer Animal Health.  Before moving to the animal health industry, Dr. Mills worked for five years in private veterinary practice in the Denver metropolitan area where he maintains his veterinary license.

Dr. Mills also serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve (USAR).  He joined the USAR in 2003 as a member of the Veterinary Corp (VC) with his first assignment in the 993^rd Vet Med Detachment in Aurora, CO.  During his basic training, he distinguished himself from his peers as the Army Medical Department class honor graduate.  He then served with distinction with the 5502^nd US Army Hospital and spent five years conducting his reserve duty supporting the Central Pacific Veterinary Command in Honolulu, HI.  In 2007 he transferred to the 432^nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Green Bay, WI as their Function Specialty Team Veterinarian and deployed with them to Iraq where is authored the Multi-National Division – Baghdad Joint Common Plan for Animal Health and Agriculture.  LTC Mills subsequently served with the 402^nd CA Battalion in Puerto Rico and the 450^th CA Battalion (ABN) in Maryland, where he earned his Basic Airborne Course (BAC) qualification, before moving to the 304^th CA Brigade in Bristol, PA.  As the brigade veterinarian, he coordinated veterinary public health training across the brigade battalions.   LTC Mills currently serves as the 352d Civil Affairs Command Preventive Medicine Veterinarian in Fort Meade, MD and develops, integrates, and implements veterinary Civil Affairs strategy and training across the CA Command. 

Outside of The Vets, Dr. Mills is a high school mountain bike coach, is a competitive mountain biker, triathlete, and runner on trail and road. He enjoys travel (has been to all 50 states), food, and IPA beers. Dr. Mills is also the proud owner of two black labs, Endo (12) and Surly (3).
